Peter Gadiot is born in West Sussex, England. He's a British actor and model. He portrayed the role of James Valdez in the hit USA Network show Queen of the South. He also played Cyrus in ABC's Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Troy Andrews is born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also known by his stage name Trombone Shorty, he's a musician, producer, actor, and philanthropist. He is best known as a trombone and trumpet player but also plays drums, organ, and tuba. He has worked with some of the biggest names in rock, pop, jazz, funk, and hip hop. Andrews is the younger brother of trumpeter and bandleader James Andrews and the grandson of singer and songwriter Jessie Hill. Other musical family members are cousins Glen David Andrews and the late Travis "Trumpet Black" Hill. Andrews began playing trombone at age four, and since 2009 has toured with his own band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.

Nash Overstreet is born in Nashville, Tennessee. He's a music artist, songwriter and producer. Nash is a multi-platinum, American Music Award, two-time BMI Pop award winner who had success with his pop-rock band Hot Chelle Rae.

Lloyd is born Lloyd Polite Jr. in New Orleans, LA. He's a singer, songwriter, and dancer. Lloyd began his career in music as a member of the preteen-boy band N-Toon. The group disbanded in 2001 and Lloyd embarked on a solo career in 2003. In 2004, Lloyd released his solo debut single "Southside", the title track of his debut album, Southside. The single features Ashanti, and it quickly charted on the US Billboard Hot 100, and became a Top 40 hit. His second album Street Love, was released on March 13, 2007. It featured the top-twenty hits "You" and "Get It Shawty." He has subsequently had other successful singles and albums.

Charlyne Yi is born in Los Angeles County, California. Charlyne is an American actor, comedian, musician, and writer, with performances including music, magic, games, and often audience participation. Charlyne's screenwriting debut, the feature film Paper Heart, won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Charlyne is also known for roles as Dr. Chi Park on the Fox medical drama House, the voice of Ruby on the Cartoon Network animated series Steven Universe (2013–2019), and its epilogue series Steven Universe Future, the voice of Chloe Park on We Bare Bears (2014–2019) and the voice of Alice on Summer Camp Island (beginning in 2018).

A Baptist minister, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in 1935 as a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). He left federal politics to become Leader of the Saskatchewan Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and then the seventh Premier of Saskatchewan. His cabinet was the first democratic socialist government in North America and it introduced the continent's first single-payer, universal health care program. He was born on October 20, 1904 in Camelon, Falkirk, Scotland.

The resulting nuclear reactor meltdown releases radioactive fallout into the atmosphere, contaminating the area for tens of miles around and causing long-term desertion of the area. A 19-mile-radius exclusion zone is created and 117,000 people evacuate the area, including from the city of Pripyat. This is considered the worst nuclear accident up to this point. Fewer than 100 people are directly killed by the explosion, but many more die from long-term radiation exposure.

Jul. 8, 1986 Hyman G. Rickover dies at age 86 in Arlington, Virginia. He was an admiral in the U.S. Navy. He directed the original development of naval nuclear propulsion and controlled its operations for three decades as director of the U.S. Naval Reactors office. In addition, he oversaw the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor used for generating electricity. Rickover is also one of four people who have been awarded two Congressional Gold Medals. He was born on January 27, 1900 in Maków Mazowiecki, Congress Poland.

Jul. 10, 1986 After allowing the California Angels three runs in the top of the tenth inning, the Boston Red Sox score four runs in the bottom of the tenth to win the game, 8-7, at Boston's Fenway Park. Angels pitcher Todd Fischer is brought into the game with the bases loaded. Home plate umpire Joe Brinkman rules that Fischer moves his hands before coming to a set position, which is a balk, and which allows the winning run to score. The winning run scores without a pitch being thrown.

Jul. 15, 1986 In the 1986 Major League Baseball All Star Game, the American League defeats the National League 3-2. The game is played at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, and the attendance is 45,774. Ten different players get base hits, but nobody gets more than one hit.  For the American League, Lou Whitaker and Frank White hit home runs. Pitcher Roger Clemens of the Boston Red Sox is named the Most Valuable Player of this All Star Game. He starts the game for the American League, pitches three scoreless innings, and strikes out two batters. He is credited with the win.

Aug. 6, 1986 The Orioles lose to the Texas Rangers, 13-11, at Memorial Staadium in Baltimore.  The Orioles lose despite hitting two grand-slam home runs, by Larry Sheets and Jim Dwyer.  Texas also hits a grand slam (by Toby Harrah), making a Major League record of three grand slams hit in the same game.  This game marks the start of an extended poor playing period by the Orioles that lasts until the end of the 1988 season.  The Orioles' win-loss record just before this game is 59-47, but the Orioles then go 14-42 the rest of the season and end the 1986 season at 73-89, breaking their streak of 18 consecutive winning seasons (starting in 1968).
Aug. 7, 1986 William J. Schroeder dies 620 days after receiving a Jarvik 7 artificial heart. He was the second person to receive a Jarvik 7 and one of the first persons to receive an artificial heart. (He received the artificial heart at age 54 on November 25, 1984, but 18 days later he suffered the first of a series of strokes, eventually leaving him in a vegetative state. He is the longest-surviving person with an artificial heart, up to this point.) William Schroeder was born on February 14, 1932 in Jasper, Indiana.

Owen has four hits (including two singles in the sixth inning, plus a home run later), and a walk, and he also reaches base on an error, scoring all 6 times he is on base. (The immediately previous player to score 6 runs in a game was Frank Torre of the Milwaukee Braves who scored 6 runs in the Braves' 23-10 win against the Chicago Cubs on September 2, 1957.)
