Former Richard Nixon administration officials John N. Mitchell, H.R. Haldeman, John D. Ehrlichman, and Robert C. Mardian are found guilty by a jury in Washington, D.C., of charges related to the Watergate cover-up. (Mardian later has his conviction for conspiracy reversed on appeal.)

Since 2018, he has hosted Armchair Expert, a podcast that interviews celebrities, journalists, and academics about their lives.  Shepard has appeared in the feature films Without a Paddle (2004), Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), Employee of the Month (2006), Idiocracy (2006), Let's Go to Prison (2006), Hit and Run (2012), and CHiPs (2017), the last pair of which he also wrote and directed. Shepard portrayed Crosby Braverman in the NBC comedy-drama series Parenthood from 2010 to 2015. He also played Luke Matthews in the Netflix show The Ranch, co-starred in ABC's Bless This Mess, and acted in the MTV practical joke reality series Punk'd (2003).

Doug Robb is born in Agoura Hills, California. He's a vocalist in the American rock band Hoobastank.

The "Jeopardy!" TV game show airs its final episode on NBC, with Art Fleming as host. (It began on March 30, 1964.) It will be revived three times in syndicated form: 1975-76, then 1978-79, and most successfully from September 1984 to the present, the latter having Alex Trebek as host on first-run episodes through January 8, 2021. (Alex died on November 8, 2020; first-run taped episodes of "Jeopardy!" continued for two months after his death.)

Jason Marsden is born in Providence, Rhode Island. He is an actor, director and producer. He has been the official voice of Max Goof since 1995.

Danica McKellar is born in La Jolla, Calirornia. She's an actress, mathematics writer, and education advocate. She played Winnie Cooper in the television series The Wonder Years from 1988–1993, and since 2010 has voiced Miss Martian in the animated superhero series Young Justice. n 2015, McKellar was cast in the Netflix original series Project Mc². She appears in several television films for Hallmark Channel. She's the voice of Judy Jetson from The Jetsons since 2017. She has also written six non-fiction books about math.

Thomas Bangalter is born in Paris, France. He's a French musician, record producer, singer, songwriter, DJ, and composer. He is best known as one half of the former French house music duo Daft Punk, alongside Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. He has recorded and released music as a member of the trio Stardust, the duo Together, and as a solo artist. Bangalter's work has influenced a wide range of artists in various genres. He has provided compositions for films such as Irréversible. Outside of music production, his credits include film director and cinematographer.

Josephine Baker dies at age 68 in Paris, France. She was an American-born French dancer, movie star, French Resistance agent, and civil rights activist. She lived most of her adult life in France (from 1925 onward) and became a French citizen upon marriage to a Frenchman in 1937. She was born Freda Josephine McDonald on June 3, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Sony introduces its Betamax videocassette recorder and videocassette in Japan. This marks the start of widespead adoption of videocassette recorders (VCRs) by consumers to record programs from television, to play prerecorded tapes (including movies and exercise videos), and to make home videos (the latter ultimately made easier by the camcorder, introduced in 1983. Another popular format of videocassette recorders and tapes, VHS, is introduced by JVC on June 4, 1977.)

All 188 people on board a Royal Air Maroc chartered Boeing 707 passenger flight are killed when the airliner crashes into a mountain on approach to Agadir Inezgane Airport, Morocco. U.S. President Gerald Ford escapes an attempt on his life by Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, a disciple of Charles Manson, in Sacramento, California. At Capitol Park, Fromme points a Colt .45-caliber gun at Ford, but the gun does not fire because there is no bullet in the chamber, and is immediately restrained by Secret Service agent Larry Buendorf. While being handcuffed, she states that the gun "didn't go off." (On November 19, 1975, she is convicted of attempted assassination of the president and receives a life prison sentence.)
