As 1975 begins, it's cloudy and 41 degrees F at Baltimore's weather station. The wind is from the south at 10 miles an hour.

The first personal computer, the Altair 8800, is featured on the cover of the January 1975 edition of Popular Electronics magazine.  It was invented by Ed Roberts.  It uses the Intel 8080 microprocessor and is manufactured in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by a company called MITS.

It's the beginning of International Women's Year as proclaimed by the United Nations. (Beginning this year, March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day.)

Former Richard Nixon administration officials John N. Mitchell, H.R. Haldeman, John D. Ehrlichman, and Robert C. Mardian are found guilty by a jury in Washington, D.C., of charges related to the Watergate cover-up. (Mardian later has his conviction for conspiracy reversed on appeal.)

In men's tennis, Australian John Newcombe wins the Australian Open over Jimmy Connors. It is the seventh and last Grand Slam singles title of his career.

Dax Shepard is born in Highland Township, Michigan. He's an actor, comedian, writer, director and podcast host. Since 2018, he has hosted Armchair Expert, a podcast that interviews celebrities, journalists, and academics about their lives.  Shepard has appeared in the feature films Without a Paddle (2004), Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), Employee of the Month (2006), Idiocracy (2006), Let's Go to Prison (2006), Hit and Run (2012), and CHiPs (2017), the last pair of which he also wrote and directed. Shepard portrayed Crosby Braverman in the NBC comedy-drama series Parenthood from 2010 to 2015. He also played Luke Matthews in the Netflix show The Ranch, co-starred in ABC's Bless This Mess, and acted in the MTV practical joke reality series Punk'd (2003).

Doug Robb is born in Agoura Hills, California. He's a vocalist in the American rock band Hoobastank.

The "Jeopardy!" TV game show airs its final episode on NBC, with Art Fleming as host. (It began on March 30, 1964.) It will be revived three times in syndicated form: 1975-76, then 1978-79, and most successfully from September 1984 to the present, the latter having Alex Trebek as host on first-run episodes through January 8, 2021. (Alex died on November 8, 2020; first-run taped episodes of "Jeopardy!" continued for two months after his death.)

Jason Marsden is born in Providence, Rhode Island. He is an actor, director and producer. He has been the official voice of Max Goof since 1995.

Danica McKellar is born in La Jolla, Calirornia. She's an actress, mathematics writer, and education advocate. She played Winnie Cooper in the television series The Wonder Years from 1988–1993, and since 2010 has voiced Miss Martian in the animated superhero series Young Justice. n 2015, McKellar was cast in the Netflix original series Project Mc2. She appears in several television films for Hallmark Channel. She's the voice of Judy Jetson from The Jetsons since 2017. She has also written six non-fiction books about math.

Thomas Bangalter is born in Paris, France. He's a French musician, record producer, singer, songwriter, DJ, and composer. He is best known as one half of the former French house music duo Daft Punk, alongside Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. He has recorded and released music as a member of the trio Stardust, the duo Together, and as a solo artist. Bangalter's work has influenced a wide range of artists in various genres. He has provided compositions for films such as Irréversible. Outside of music production, his credits include film director and cinematographer.

Jill Marie Jones is born in Dallas, Texas. She's an actress and former professional dancer and cheerleader. Jones is best known for her role as Antoinette "Toni" Childs-Garrett on the UPN comedy series, Girlfriends (2000–2006). Jones has appeared in a number of films, and had the recurring role as Cynthia Irving on the Fox supernatural series, Sleepy Hollow. From 2015 to 2016, she starred as Amanda Fisher in the Starz horror-comedy series, Ash vs Evil Dead.
