The Baltimore riot continues, concentrated in the ghettoes of west Baltimore and east Baltimore.  Many stores and other businesses are looted, sacked, and set on fire, as are some vehicles.  People jump on the hoods and roofs of some cars while they are stopped for red traffic lights.  Some people are shot.

At 2:00 p.m., the curfew hour in Baltimore is advanced to 4:00 p.m.  During curfew, nobody can come into Baltimore (city), gasoline sales and sales of other inflammables are prohibited (except gasoline in cars).  No liquor is sold in Baltimore nor in Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, or Howard County.  In these counties, the county offices close as well as State offices located in these counties (e.g., the Annapolis state offices).

As the city and state police forces and Maryland National Guard units are not enough to control the rioting, Maryland governor Spiro Agnew asks U.S. President Lyndon Johnson to send Federal troops.  At 6:14 p.m., President Johnson orders 1,900 Federal soldiers into Baltimore.

By 7:30 p.m. rioters are in most of Baltimore and are beginning to spill out into some close-by suburbs (Catonsville, Pikesville).

At 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., looting peaks, with 128 incidents logged.

At 8:30 p.m. Governor Agnew extends the curfew to Baltimore County.  He also appears on television to explain why he has set the curfews.

In the evening, a Black church in Catonsville is burned.

At 10:15 p.m., the Maryland National Guard in Baltimore is placed under Federal orders.
