A revival of the musical "Pal Joey" opens on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York, NY. (It runs for 542 performances. The show originally premiered on Broadway on December 25, 1940, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and ran for 374 performances.)

Wendy Phillips is born in Brooklyn, New York, NY. She's an actress, noted for playing David Selby's character's last wife, Lauren Daniels, during the final season of Falcon Crest and for playing Gerald McRaney's wife, Claire Greene, on both Touched by an Angel and Promised Land. Other television series in which she has been a featured player have included A Year in the Life, The Robert Guillaume Show, Homefront and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Among her film works, there is a role in Airplane II: The Sequel and also in Bugsy.

Early in the day, a highly unusual February subtropical cyclone strikes Cape Sable, Florida and quickly crosses the state. The Miami Weather Bureau office records a wind gust of 68 mph during its passage. The winds damage windows and power lines, catching residents and tourists off-guard. The cyclone also drops 2–4 inches of precipitation along its path, causing crop damage in Miami-Dade County. After leaving Florida, the subtropical storm briefly transitions into a tropical storm, the only tropical or subtropical storm on record in the month. The storm continues rapidly northeastward, reaching peak winds of 70 mph.

King George VI of the United Kingdom dies at age 56 at Sandringham House in Norfolk, England. He was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from December 11, 1936 until his death. He was concurrently the last Emperor of India until August 1947, when the British Raj was dissolved. King George VI was born in December 14, 1895 in Norfolk, England.

King George VI's daughter Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth II upon his death.

Peart earned numerous awards for his musical performances, including an induction into the Modern Drummer Readers Poll Hall of Fame in 1983, making him the youngest person ever so honored. Known to fans by the nickname 'The Professor', his drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina. He died at age 67 on January 7, 2020 in Santa Monica, Californa.

He was a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He died at age 71 on May 27, 2024 in San Diego, California.
