The Cheasapeake-Potomac Hurricane of 1933 makes landfall in the Outer Banks near Nags Head in North Carolina with winds estimated at 90 mph. It then moves northward through North Carolina and Virginia, causing downed trees, broken windows, flooding, and damage to crops.

The Cheaspeake-Potomac Hurricane of 1933 strikes Maryland. It is estimated that the storm produces hurricane-force winds in portions of Maryland. Along the coast, high waves erode about 2 square miles of beaches in Maryland and another one square mile in Delaware. High waves create an inlet that turns Assateague into an island. The storm damages or destroys several hotels in the region. Power, telephone, and telegraph outages occur from Cape Charles through Delaware. In Baltimore, 7.62 inches of precipitation fall in 24 hours, causing flooding. The storm surge wrecks a steamboat pier and promenade at Chesapeake Beach, and damages or destroys 70 houses in neighboring North Beach. In Cheverly, flooding causes nine cars of a train to derail, killing four people. Statewide, the storm causes about $7 million in crop damage, mostly to tobacco, tomatoes, and corn. The high tides cause $3 million in damage to the fishing industry, damaging or destroying many boats and docks. There is about $90,000 worth of damage to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, after docks are damaged. Throughout the state, the hurricane causes about $10 million in property damage, with another $1.1 million to federal properties, about $960,000 in transportation damage, and $364,000 in utility damage.

Damage in Washington, D.C., from the hurricane is the worst since a tropical storm in 1896. In Atlantic City, New Jersey, winds reach 76 mph and 8.12 inches of rain fall. Rainfall is 13.24 inches in Bridgeville, Delaware. The largest rainfall associated with the hurricane is 13.28 inches in York, Pennsylvania.

The top of the Empire State Building in New York, NY, records a wind gust of 90 mph.

Baltimore receives 7.62 inches of rain, a record for the most precipitation in Baltimore on any August 23rd (up to this point) since recordkeeping began in 1871. This is also the most precipitation ever recorded in Baltimore on any single day in August (up to this point) since recordkeeping began.
