The first horn-activated traffic light in the world is installed at the intersection of Falls Road and Belvedere Avenue (later known as Northern Parkway) in Baltimore.  When drivers come upon a red light here, they honk their horns and a microphone detects the honks, causing a mechanism to turn the light to green.  Being a country crossroads at this time, mooing cows around here often cause the light to turn green!  Charles Adler Jr. of Baltimore invented this signal.

Burt Bacharach is born Burt Freeman Bacharach in Kansas City, Missouri. He became a composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th-century popular music. He composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. He won three Academy Awards, six Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award. From 1961 to 1972, most of Bacharach and David's hits were written specifically for and performed by Dionne Warwick, but earlier associations (from 1957 to 1963) saw the composing duo work with Marty Robbins, Perry Como, Gene McDaniels, and Jerry Butler. Following the initial success of these collaborations, Bacharach wrote hits for Gene Pitney, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Jackie DeShannon, Bobbie Gentry, Tom Jones, Herb Alpert, B. J. Thomas, and Carpenters, among numerous other artists. He was born Burt Freeman Bacharach on May 12, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. He died at age 94 on February 8, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.
