The Florida land boom continues, with land purchasing and building construction reaching a speculative frenzy, and prices rapidly increasing.  Local billboards and newspapers in Florida are chock-full of ads for real estate. However, the cost of living in Florida is skyrocketing and there begins to be negative press from outsiders (such as the New York newspapers) that land and real-estate prices are too high to be sustainable. 

This year, the first photo booth is installed, on Broadway in New York, NY. For 25 cents, it takes and automatically develops ten photographs, all in about ten minutes. Its camera has fixed focus and automatic flash. Each photo is a portrait photo of one person who sits on a seat inside the booth (or perhaps two people or more, such as a parent with young children on his or her lap). An interval of about 15 seconds between snapshots allows a person to exit and another person to enter the booth, if desired. Photographs are developed by the booth's machine and delivered to the customer automatically. (The automatic photography machine, which the booth incorporates, was invented in 1888 by William Pope and Edward Poole of Baltimore.) Later versions of photo booths often produce strips of four photos, a common photo size being 1-3/8 inches by 2 inches. Color booth photos are introduced by the late 1970s, and digital photo booths (with a wide range of digital modifications available for each photo) after 2000.

Nellie Tayloe Ross becomes the first female governor of a U.S. state when she takes office as Governor of Wyoming. The Democrat succeeds her late husband William B. Ross's  successor Frank Lucas after winning a special election. (After serving as Governor of Wyoming from 1925 to 1927, she becomes Director of the U.S. Mint and holds that office from 1933 to 1953. She's the first woman Mint director as well. She lives to age 101, dying on December 19, 1977 in Washington, D.C.)

The second inauguration of Calvin Coolidge as president of the United States, is held at the East Portico of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. This is the 35th presidential inauguration and marks the commencement of the second and only full term of Calvin Coolidge as president and the only term of Charles G. Dawes as vice president. Chief Justice William Howard Taft, who had served as president from 1909 to 1913, administers the oath of office. This is the first inauguration on which a former U.S. president administers the Oath and the first to be broadcast nationally on radio. The vice-presidential oath of office is administered by the president pro tempore of the United States Senate, Albert B. Cummins. (At the time, vice presidents were sworn into office in the Senate Chamber of the capitol, and would give an inaugural address before everyone headed on to the outside platform where the president would take the oath. Dawes makes a fiery, half-hour address denouncing the rules of the Senate, the seniority system and many other Senate customs.) Coolidge's address is barely mentioned in the news reports the next day.

In the world's first demonstration of a radio-controlled automobile, Houdina Radio Control Company demonstrates the "American Wonder" on New York City streets. The car is a 1926 Chandler that is equipped with an 8-foot-long transmitting-and-receiving antenna but no person in the car itself, with the car being operated by a person in another car following it. The Evening News of Harrisburg, PA, reports that the radio-controlled car "barely misses trucks, automobiles and a milk wagon, finally crashing into a sedan." However, the car survives the crash and keeps going, heading straight for a candy store window. At this point, Francis Houdina, inventor of radio remote controls for vehicles and namesake of his company, jumps into the American Wonder and manually stops it before it can do any more harm.
